Masahiko Kimura is a strategic leader in the firm’s international patent practice, serving as the primary liaison for foreign clients and overseas patent firms.
He possesses deep expertise in prosecuting patent applications in Japan for international clients, as well as orchestrating complex foreign filings and prosecution strategies for Japanese clients in the US, Europe, China, Korea, and other jurisdictions. His technical strengths cover industrial engineering, automotive technology, battery technology, and medical devices.
A distinctive asset is his ability to bridge language barriers; he provides nuanced Japanese–English and English–Japanese patent translations with a strong awareness of Japanese examination practice, carefully avoiding ambiguity and claim language that could trigger office actions, thereby minimizing legal risks and ensuring strict technical consistency across borders.
Recognized for his excellence in prosecution and client service, he was ranked “Silver – Individuals: Prosecution (Patent)” by IAM Patent 1000 in 2025.
Beyond his professional responsibilities, he is a devoted father of two boys and is passionate about supporting his sons’ soccer activities on weekends.
